Popular Squad Ballsy (Japanese: ポプテピピック, Hepburn: Poputepipikku ), as well known as Poptepipic , is a Japanese 4-panel surreal comedy webcomic and digital manga series written and illustrated by Bkub Okawa (alternatively romanized as "Bukubu Okawa"), which started serialization on Takeshobo's Manga Life Win website in August 2014. An anime television series adaptation animated past Kamikaze Douga and produced by King Records premiered on BS11 on Jan vii, 2018; with the get-go season concluding on March 25, 2018, and two special episodes airing on April 1, 2019. An anime adaptation of the series was announced on April 2, 2017. It was initially teased equally an adaptation of Hoshiiro Girldrop on April Fool'due south Day 2017. The anime features blitheness by Kamikaze Douga and production past King Records,[20] and is directed by Jun Aoki and Aoi Umeki.[21] The series aired on BS11 for 12 episodes between Jan 7 and March 25, 2018, following a delay from October 2017 due to an "fault by King Records".[ix] [22] A idiot box special aired on April 1, 2019 which consists of episodes 13 and 14.[23]

Taking after its source manga, the anime takes the form of an animated parody show, featuring numerous, typically disjointed skits of varying lengths; while some of these shorts are adjusted from the original comic strips, the bulk of them are original creations. The various shorts collectively showcase a variety of animation styles, most often CGI, professional-looking second animation, and idiosyncratic animation from Team Air-conditioning ( AC部 , AC-bu ). Each half-hour episode features two about-identical 15-minute segments, each containing different voice actors and other subtle differences.

The opening theme for episodes ii-10 is "Pop Team Epic" (remixed as "Pop Team Epic (Rebroadcasting Mix)" for the rest of the series, except for the final two episodes, in Popular Team Epic Repeat) past Sumire Uesaka,[24] while the ending theme titled "Poppy Pappy 24-hour interval" is sung by Popuko (Yui Makino/Kenji Akabane (ep one-half-dozen), Hiromi Igarashi/Toshiki Masuda (ep 8–9, 11)) and Pipimi (Yui Watanabe/Shunsuke Takeuchi (ep 1-vi), Rei Matsuzaki/Wataru Hatano (ep 8–9, eleven)), with Shouta Aoi performing the theme for episode 12. The ending theme for episode ten is "Jinsei" ( 人生 , lit. life) also by the Igarashi/Matsuzaki and Masuda/Hatano duos. The opening theme for episode ane, which opened with a Hoshiiro Girldrop segment, is "Twinkling Star" by Drop Stars (Yui Ogura, Inori Minase, and Uesaka).[25] Episode 12 used the classical music pieces Night on Bald Mount and Dies Irae in its storyline. The opening theme for the first half of the special is "last sparkle" by Uesaka, while the 2nd half uses the opening theme, "Pretty candle star" by Drop Stars (Ogura, Minase, and Uesaka) in the offset role and parodied by Shunsuke Itakura and Tōru Adachi of Team AC (voicing as Korona Yuhi) in the second part. The insert song and ending theme for the kickoff one-half are "Popuko ni Sauce" ( ポプ子にソース , lit. "Sauce for Popuko") and "Fūsen Hikō" ( 風船飛行 , lit. "Balloon Flying"), respectively; both are sung past Popuko (Yuka Ozaki/Kent Ito) and Pipimi (Aya Uchida/Ryuichi Kijima). The insert song for the second one-half is "Bansaku neender", sung by the Ozaki/Uchida and Ito/Kijima duos, with Aoi singing his version of the ending theme "Fūsen Hikō", likewise every bit his own ending theme, "AOI Traveler."

The series was renewed for a second flavor on Dec 26, 2021, following the finale of Pop Team Epic Repeat. Information technology is set to premiere in October 2022.[26] [27]

Sentai Filmworks simulcast the series on Hidive.[28] Crunchyroll simulcast the series worldwide exterior of Asia.[29] Funimation simulcast the English language-dubbed version in English language-speaking territories as it aired;[xxx] Funimation as well caused the rights to release the anime on abode video in North America.[31] Funimation besides bundled the series to air on Adult Swim'due south Toonami programming block starting on July 1, 2018.[32] In Commonwealth of australia and New Zealand, the serial simulcast on AnimeLab.[33] Aniplus Asia simulcast the series in Southeast Asia.[i] The series became available on Netflix in February 2020 in what was originally eleven-minute episodes. It was replaced by the original half-hour format due to complaints from users.[34] A remixed rerun titled Pop Team Ballsy Repeat, which mixes upwardly the voice actors from the original run, began airing from October 9, 2021 and is being simulcast by Crunchyroll.[35] It also features re-recorded versions of the Ac-BU segments and Japanese dubs of the Japon Mignon segments.
